3yo struggling with attention in new preschool setting

Hi everyone,

I’d love to hear if anyone else has experienced this. My 3-year-old has started preschool this September, which is based in a big village hall. At his old nursery (smaller rooms, more contained environment) he was really engaged and could focus on activities. At home he can also stay engaged with games, jigsaws etc for quite a while.

But since starting at this new setting, staff have said his attention isn’t great - he tends to run around a lot now that he has access to a bigger space. They’re going to keep monitoring him, but it’s left me feeling a bit concerned.

Has anyone else found that their child’s attention or behaviour changed depending on the environment? Did things settle down with time, or did you/your child’s nursery find any strategies that helped?

Thanks so much for reading. I’m feeling a bit anxious and would really appreciate hearing other parents’ experiences.

He's three. He should be running around.

@Ciderapplevinegar it’s a very fair point 😂 I think it’s more the fact that it’s been flagged quite early on that the running around means his listening and attention skills are suffering as a result. He also has a slight speech delay but has caught up a lot in the last six months. So I’m just on high alert with him!
