Should we pay consumables fee if child not there?

Hi all
my DD has been at private nursery since 10months. She’s 4 in January and this last week we have given 30 days notice as per terms and conditions to leave nursery as she is going to the local school nursery where my oldest goes.
we have given notice on Wednesday last week and withdrawn her the same day, so as from tomorrow she will be at the new nursery.

i am expecting an invoice for the 30 days for their daily fee, but should i have to pay the consumables fee on the basis she won’t be there to consume anything? Its £145 a month in consumables. And should they apply a credit for the last week and a half of September for the consumables?

i’m aware the consumables charge is optional anyway although i have always paid it as the meals were great and activities good but would rather not pay it if i don’t have to especially as she isn’t there to be eating or doing any activities (although appreciate i am liable for the 30 days notice for the normal daily fee)

thank you

You would think that some discount in the £145 would be given, suppose it depends what’s in the Contract. I would query it, as obviously your DC isn’t going to be using/eating/drinking these consumables.

Depends on what is in your contract.

If the consumables charge is optional then surely you don't have to pay it?

Check your contract and ask the nursery is really the only way to go about it.

If they're reasonable you shouldn't have to pay it as she isn't there consuming anything.

Thanks all. I will try dig contract out but she started in 2022 and i don’t know if the consumables was a thing back then? She also didn’t get any funded hours til last Easter so we haven’t always paid the consumables charge so there is a chance the contract doesn’t mention it, but i will check anyway.
i just wondered if anyone had come across this before.

Hi OP, just interested as to what happened in the end?

Hi @TheRosesAreInBloom
in the end we got a £50 refund back, i can’t fully remember how this was worked out and i can’t find the invoice they sent me, but it took them til mid October to sort it out and by that point i just wanted to draw a line under it as we’d pulled DD out of nursery as we weren’t happy with the nursery anymore and she’d settled into school really well, so i just took the £50 and moved on so i’m not sure whether their calculations were right or not but we got something 😊
