Do I work with 2-4 or 2-5yos?

I'm leaving work and I'm not sure whether to say I currently work with 2-4 year olds or 2-5 year olds. I've always said 2-4 (until they go to school ie. Until they are 4+) but I saw a preschool ad the other day which said '2-5 years old' which made me think does 2-4 years old mean from 2 until they are 4 or including 4, until they leave for school?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It simply means you've cared for five years olds. Have you? If you want to phrase it as 'up to five' then do so. I suppose some kids are still in nursery at five? If even one of yours was five or very nearly five you could say it?

I think you're overthinking this a lot. I'd say 2-5 personally.

BarnacleBeasley · 10/04/2025 10:32

They could be five if they've been deferred, so the preschool is advertising that it takes children from 2-5. For your CV, I think it depends whether you've cared for any 5-year-olds or not, but I don't think you'd be considered a weaker candidate because there didn't happen to be any in the pre-school you'd worked in.

If it was a school nursery it’s possible they were including reception year as that’s still under the EYFS.

I’d say 2-4’s, plus wrap around and holiday club up to 11yr if I was making an application for a new job.

Thanks everyone. Yes to me 2-5 includes 5 year olds but it could equally 2yo up to 5yo. I have one deferred but he's only 5 in August so not while he's with me and it hasn't made a difference. I just wanted to know what was correct for a CV.

If you’re not worked with 5 year olds, write 2-4 year olds.

i think you’re overthinking this😂
maybe just put “pre school children”?

PrincessOfPreschool · 11/04/2025 09:47

Preschool children means different things in different places. Often nurseries have a preschool room which is 3+ but we also have from 2 years old where I am so my children range from 2-4+

Ah ok, yes that makes sense! 2-4+ will best then.
