What's a really good nursery in Hackney?

I'm looking for a nursery for my 2 year old DD, hoping she can start within the next 6 months. Can anyone recommend anywhere - I have the list from the council, and am going to visit a few, but any recommendations would be really welcome - there are so many on there. We're looking at places anywhere in E8 and N16, or even Homerton/Clapton way if the nursery is a a good one ...

Have a look at Rosemary Works Early Years Centre, if you can go as far as N1 (Islington/Hackney boundaries) - though you might find the waiting list is quite long for a 2year old place.

Rainbow, on Yorkshire Grove, is lovely and communityish. Lots of people seem to like Bathhouse in Shacklewell. My health visitor says 'posh mums' go to Coconut on Church street. Other friends are very happy witih Phoenix Montessori on stamford hill.

Bath House! It's crazy, but fab. Don't be put off by the scruffiness or the slight edge of chaos, it's a fantastic, really creative and loving place. And if your child will be going to school in the same area, they run an after-school club which picks up from Shacklewell, Colvestone and Our Lady & ST Joseph, and will take nursery and reception children too (lots of after-school clubs won't). They do holiday clubs too.

Happy days. Dd2 still talks about it, and wants to go back for visits.

kikizinzin, you've bumped four old threads advertizing your Locusts In The Park nursery, I presume you are the owner?

jillhastwoponies - that's not fair. Grasshoppers is run by parents. It's not for profit so there are no owners. My son goes there and really likes it and Grasshoppers is one of the few nurseries in Hackney that is genuinely small - 14 places. When there are free places, we (as parents) try to fill them not because we make a profit but because we want to see the nursery survive and thrive. That's what kikizinzin was trying to do. Your renaming of the nursery is not fair to us as parents who put our time and energy into the nursery. Come in and meet us and see the nursery in action. Then you can see if what we're doing is worthwhile.
