Settling in sessions

We're in the fortunate position where we have 4 weeks to get our then 10 month old settled at nursery before I go back to work and we don't have to throw him in at the deep end for want of a better phrase.

He'll be in 8-5 4 days a week when I'm back.

I'm thinking at the moment week 1 will be 2 x settling in sessions
Week 2 3 x half days
Week 3 2 half days and two full days
Week 4 4 full days

Any advice on whether that seems like a reasonable approach? It's such a big change for both of us and I want to make sure he's happy before I'm back in the office! Any insight greatfully received

Hi

Just gone through one year old's first week we had 5 settling in sessions prior as thats what was available.

If i were you, i would do 3 settling in sessions the first week, as they forget after so many days.

Week 2 sounds fine with the 3 half days.

I wouldn't rush to do 4 full days until you have to and use the time to build it up though.

So week 3 you could do 2 half days and 2x 3 quarter days if that makes sense.

Then your current week 3 could be your week 4.

Just my opinion though.

From what I’ve seen, from friends’ experiences and from the nursery staff, a staggered start just prolongs their upset.

I'd do one gradual week eg stay for an hour, then 2 hours, then a couple of half days.
2nd week get him in at least half days every day and then into whole days.

We didn't get a choice, the nursery dictated to us.
We had 3 x 1 hr sessions, then a half day, then into full days

Thanks all, I think my original plan seems to be somewhere in the middle of your suggestions. I'll have a chat to the nursery and see what their take on it is.

I just need to know he's settled and okay before I go back to work rather than having to worry about that as well as focusing on work!
