…one?

is this a trick question? Of course a child with diarrhoea gets sent home

LostittoBostik · 13/02/2025 11:39

2 at mine. They call for pick up on the second (to be sure it wasn't just too much fruit the day before or whatever)

Notsuchacleverclogs · 13/02/2025 11:40

The policy at DC's nursery is 2 within 24hrs. You get a phone call after the first one to warn you (i usually hot foot it home from the office at this point to wfh because the second is inevitably not far behind...)

MissRachelismycoparent · 13/02/2025 11:40

2 at ours in 24 hours.

BarnacleBeasley · 13/02/2025 11:41

In our nursery it's 3. But there are varying degrees of 'loose'. If it's just a bit on the squishy side, they'd wait for 3, and if it's gushing out in liquid form you'd be asked to take them straight away. They base it on the child's normal habits too - DS1 always had sloppier poos (sorry for TMI) partly due to extended breastfeeding, so they wouldn't worry about him as much as they might for another child.

Purpleandgreenyarn · 13/02/2025 11:43

Depends whether there are other symptoms and the degree of looseness. If it’s acid water, immediate, if it’s a bit more textured, 2.
You have to consider it isn’t just about your child, it’s about making sure the whole room doesn’t get ill!

SatinHeart · 13/02/2025 11:44

Two unless other symptoms as well like a temperature or being off food. Unless the nursery was in the middle of a D&V outbreak, when it tended to be one.

As pp said, one loose poo in an otherwise well child can just be too much fruit (especially berries).

TTCJJB · 13/02/2025 12:45

It's three at hours but I think they use their discretion too.

My nephews nursery had a one loose bowel movement policy which is absurd.

dhxxx · 13/02/2025 19:49

My daughter goes to two different nurseries - one has a 3 in 24 hour policy, the other one sends home after 1!! It's a nightmare as my daughter eats loads of fruit so often has looser nappies!

Bournetilly · 14/02/2025 20:25

3 at my DCs nursery.

Littlefish · 14/02/2025 20:39

It depends on the consistency...

Diarrhoea- straight home.

Loose - 2, then home

Littlefish · 14/02/2025 20:40

However, if a child has genuine toddler diarrhoea and has had a letter from a GP, we will obviously be guided by that.

mumbruh · 14/02/2025 20:46

Policy here is x3 loose bowel movements then go home
Or
One so loose it's leaked out the nappy and down their trouser leg onto the floor
Or
X2 within an hour
