Nursery closed for repair do I pay?

i have 4 kids booked into
our local nursery for childcare this week. 2 in the nursery and 2 in the holiday club which in total is costing me £160 for the day.
this-morning the nursery has closed as there is a water leak and I was only informed of this as I dropped off at 08.30 this morning, they said it will all be open as normal tomorrow. We came home, which is fine as I understand it can’t be helped and I have arranged to swap my work, so today is a day off and my actual day off this week I will be working and have now booked that day with nursery. But as I left I heard another parent complaining that we weren’t going to be refunded for today.
I ( maybe wrongly) assumed that I wouldn’t be charged for today as it is out of my control that they are closed. I also understand that if I were to cancel I would still be liable for the fees.
is this standard practice in nurseries?
I can’t really afford £160 in childcare fees if I’m not at work.
im now worried I will have to pay for the extra day where I have swapped and I don’t have the extra cash.
non point to this really other than to get some opinions of what is the norm.

I don't think you should have to pay as you are not receiving a service and you may well have had to use that money to pay for alternative childcare. I am sure people will be along to tell you that nuseries are struggling and need the money but the same can be said of families, it's not your burden to deal with.

Surely they have insurance that covers them for loss of income? I'd tread carefully though if there's a waiting list and not go in all guns blazing - they might just try and claw back what they can from some of the parents? Good luck.

I’m not sure and I’m a bit scared to challenge it as they have a huge waiting list and may just tell us too ‘fox-trot Oscar’.
