Toddler struggling with transition

Toddler is nearly two. This is their first time they have been in childcare. Had a settling in session and have had one proper afternoon session so far. Toddler was very upset the whole time. Went for second session today and was very upset when it came to drop off. Screaming, crying. I had a phone call as I arrived home, so approximately seven minutes after I dropped off and toddler had been sick. I explained that they did this occasionally when they were in a state. They didn't seem to believe me and I was asked to collect, which of course I did.

Where on earth do I go from here? I'm meant to be going back to work in a matter of weeks. How on earth do I facilitate this transition between home and nursery? They haven't been especially helpful.

That sounds very normal. Early years staff aren't medical workers, we can't judge whether a vomiting child is doing it purely because they're so upset or because they aren't well, so the policy generally applies across the board. Were you told if you need to keep him off now for 48 hours?

Settling can be hard, keep at it. Talk to him about what's going to happen, look at pictures of the nursery and his key person. You aren't alone in this.
