First Baby is on the way. We live in a flat and want a house. Got an offer on our place and offer accepted on a house in a different neighbourhood. After 3 months our buyer pulled out as he’s lost his job. We are devastated.

we are running out of time (baby due early Dec). We dont know if we should secure a nursery locally or wait? Do nurseries give deposit backs if we need to move to a different place? I’m so stressed :-(

Generally, if you don’t take up a space you won’t get your deposit back. The deposit is there to secure a space and covers the nursery should you change your mind. Are you taking full year of maternity leave?

No I’m not. But how do people do when they move houses and need a new nursery last min?

Find out what the deposit it - if it's not much then probably worth getting a local place just to be sure. Places in baby rooms can be hard to come by, so you may not have much choice.

Unfortunately it’s a risk that people take. As mentioned previously, depending on the deposit amount it may be better to just pay it and potentially take a hit financially if you do move to a different area. Spaces are going to be more limited than ever with the funding. If you do move you may find you struggle to find a place so you may have to travel to the original nursery anyway.
