URGENT EYFS 30 hours free funding

Hi all,
I would be greatful if you could give some urgent advice.

My 4 year old Son is at nursery and was getting the 30 hours free funding.

I thought I had reconfirmed but didn’t. He is now only getting 15 hours free funding and NOT 30 hours.

for 2 months the nursery statement included the 30 hours free funding. At the time the nursery did not inform me that I hadn’t reconfirmed and that additional monies will be charged. 3 weeks ago they said he won’t be entitled to the 30 hours & that I will owe arrears for 2 months as well as the extra monies that I owe for upcoming months. I asked how much I owe and they only informed me recently.

Nursery are now saying I owe a substantial amount of money. I cannot afford the amount.

what should I do?

thanks

Arrange a payment plan with them asap, im sure they will be understanding if you talk to them
straight away.

You're going to need to pay it. How did you miss the confirm, I get emails from direct.gov. Can you set yourself a reminder also?

BusyCM · 18/06/2024 18:42

Yeah I mean it's not the nurseries job or fault. They won't be notified until they submit their claim for the current term (likely 3 weeks ago) which is why it was discovered.

It's all your responsibility I'm afraid.

You owe the money, so make sure you've reconfirmed so you dont miss out on the 30hrs going forward, and then work out a payment plan with the nursery

Procrastinates · 18/06/2024 18:47

I'm not sure why you think it's the nurseries fault? They would know immediately and wouldn't have reminders like you did.

You need to reconfigure and then speak to the nursery to work out a payment plan, the bill needs to be paid.

Thanks everyone. No emails from HMRC.

Thanks everyone. No emails from HMRC.

OK, then pursue it with HMRC but pay the nursery!
