DS and friends at nursery (sorry could be long & complicated)

Ds has been at nursery since 18mths, on a part-time basis. My niece also attends the same nursery and is 6mths younger than ds. They are now in the same room and ds is 4, and will start school in Sept. Mil informed dh yesterday that ds has told them, through their questioning, that my niece isn't letting my ds play with any of the other boys/children at nursery. Niece is acts very shy, has had alot of problems separating from parent and very clingy to my ds. but as with alot of girls, knows exactly how to push his buttons. Ds and niece will go to different schools, and ds will probably not go with anyone from nursery anyway. HAve spoken to nursery staff about trying to keep them separate (know niece's mum is concerned about dd relaince on my ds). Don't know whether should have another word with nursery as don't want niece to start dictating who ds can/can't play with. Any suggestions.
