2yo son not adapting in older kids class

DS attends nursery and the split was under 2 yo and older than 2yo. In September he was transferred to the +2yo children class where he was basically with his peers from previous class plus the older ones. I have been asking how he was doing and according to carers, he has been having lots of tantrums (e.g. crying for a nappy change, not listening or crying for not wanting to do an activity). So the nursery first moved him to the younger class in the morning but now he is full time in this class. He is learning the same things as in older class, he has no tantrums and he says to the youngest ones what they have to do. He is going to be in the younger class until January. Is this the right way to handle his behaviour? Are there other options ? How can I help ? Thx

It sounds to me like nursery have handled it.

It sounds alright to me. Sometimes children just aren't ready and cope better a few months later. Can you work with them on transition? They could send you some photos of the room for you to look at at home and maybe he could start joining for a short time each day to get used to it.

Some children really develop better being the eldest for a while rather than the youngest. Sounds like they made the right choice for your son. We often make similar decisions.
