Need your advice!!!..........

So I've recently put my son into Nursery 2 afternoons a week (just to get him sociable and get some housework done). He's settled in really well and I like the staff etc... heres the problem.... the last 2 weeks he has come home having been bitten by another child. The staff assure me that he hadn't being acting agressively towards this other child and they are aware that the other child is prone to biting.
My hubby is now adament that we should take my son out of that nursery unless they can guarantee it won't happen again.

What does everyone think?
Are we overeacting?

How old is your little one? Biting is fairly common in toddlers, would be more concerned if it was older chidren. Still horrible for you and your son. I would ask the nursery what provisions they have put in place to try to stop it. No nursery can ever guarantee it would not happen again, as children can bite in a second, usually just as you have bent down to pick up a toy and have your eyes off them!

Its a hard choice to make, but if you get satifactory answers from room leader i would wait a little while. Unfortuntaley group day care does bring some issues like this out and the judgement has to be whether the setting deals with it effectively or if you can bear it.

To be honest its unfortunate its happened in you first few weeks, generally we have 1 or 2 instances a year (periods when a child bites not actual number of times a child bites) of a child going through a biting stage and more than that i.e if it happened with lots of different children (biting) then it would indicate a problem with staffing etc.

unfortunatley this is part and parcel of growing up.

if you went to a toddlergroup and had 1 to 1 your child would still get bitten by a biter.

all you can do is ask staff to keep extra eye on other child.

they will be unable to exclude him unless this is an ongoing long term problem and they have good exclusion policies to follow.

Thanks everyone, We've now spoken to the nursery and apparantly the "biter" is a child that has been placed with them by social services and is getting a one on one worker next week.
We have however decided to move my wee ones day at Nursery so they are not in at the same time.
