Hi all,

Anyone else experience their toddlers being upset on nursery pickup? Past couple of weeks everytime we have picked our girl up she has been crying , I’m assuming its overtiredness as they say she has had a good day etc. She is also teething so may just be wanting extra comfort? Any advice appreciated

We were advised by our sleep consultant that’s it’s totally normal behaviour. They see you as their “safe zone” so can let out all the emotions. There’s a lot going on at that age and usually they can’t express it clearly.

It can be overwhelming as a parent to deal with but it’s no reflection on the day at nursery - it literally is just a release of emotions.

I work in early years and we have a few children who cry as soon as they see their parent. It can be from tiredness or happiness at seeing their most loved person.

My one was the same so I took her out and found a childminder. I think she found the nursery setting very overwhelming at that age. She literally bounces out the childminders house. She's very happy there and it was the best decision to take her out for me.

I work in a nursery we have a few children happy as anything all day but then start crying as soon as they see parent possibly tired possible just happy to see you and can't control emotions. I feel like parents don't believe me when I say they have been happy all day but they have.

Thanks for all your replies! They say it starts as soon as other parents come in so think by that point she has had enough and just wants to come home!
