40% increase in hourly rate

I have been informed by our child's nursery that they are putting the additional hour charge up from £5 to £7. A 40% increase. Cost of hot meal has also gone up.

I know cost of living etc etc etc

But, has anyone experienced an increase this significant. This is the second fee increase this year also, despite their Ts and Cs stating that fees will be reviewed annually, so they are in breach of that already.

I know nurseries are closing etc, but my bill will jump by £300 per month, even with the funded hours.

Do I raise this with them?

Do you have any other childcare options available locally? How do they compare?

I think that would be my starting point before deciding next steps

You can raise it if you want to-see what they say. I can’t imagine they have made that decision lightly though.

Three local nurseries in my local area have announced they are closing recently-all due to rent increases/minimum wage rises-they are simply now unviable businesses. There are a lot of very panicked parents without any childcare sorted for September.
