Montessori Nursery

Has anyone got experience of a Montessori Nursery Playgroup? I'm hoping to book my DD up for September, as I've visited the Nursery and it looks really nice, but my DH says it sounds a bit 'alternative' and what's wrong with a traditional playgroup. As our DD is a bit of a livewire, he also worries that there will be a lack of discipline. I don't quite know what the difference is with regular playgroups, except as the manager said they are 'child-led', i.e they let the child decide when they want to explore things in more detail. Anyone got any info I can pass on to DH?
