Anyone moved nurseries and then regretted it?

I only ask because I've decided to take dd out of her nursery because I've had issues about the staff ratios. We're currently on a four week notice period and we're starting to settle her into new nursery next week. Since giving my reasons for leaving, the old nursery seems to have really bucked up its ideas and she seems so happy there I'm beginning to wonder if I've done the right thing! Has anyone else been in this situation and how did it pan out?

I had a similar problem with my DD. I was becoming increasingly unhappy with the nursery, but didnt want to change childcare without a very good reason. In the end I did move, but left it until I was completely certain that I had to move, as it meant that even when there were some minor problems at the new place I still didnt doubt my choice.

I moved and it proved to be a wise move (no pun intented).
I'm not very good at making my posts clear so this may be misinterpreted, but I wonder sometimes whether certain nurseries, like banks, know that it is unlikely you'll change and as a result don't make the effort other than the bare minimum required to meet OFSTED standards. I also believe that by leaving your child in a nursery, you are sending a message to the staff: It can't be that bad as I can't be bothered with the hassle of having to change nurseries.

With hindsight, I believe the previous nursery asked for the name and address of the dd current nursery because they thought I was bluffing when I told them I was taking dd out. Oh, and by the way, if there's anyone reading my posts from dd previous nursery: my daughter's name is spelt H-E-L-E-N NOT HELLON.

We changed nurseries at Christmas, after becoming increasingly disillusioned with old nursery. However problems centred around care of dd (then 16 mths) whereas ds (then 4.2) who admittedly had had problems in the past seemed just to have become really settled. We gave ds the choice as to whether to move and he opted to do so, but I was always doubtful as to how well he'd settle after being at old nursery over 3 yrs and jsut got over a difficult few months there.

We've been at new nursery 4 weeks now (they do 2 days a week), dd settled no problems but poor old ds cried every morning, and said he wanted to go back to old nursery. I felt dreadful and was really starting to regret it (despite having no actual problems with new nursery) but felt I shouldn't have unsettled him like that. Anyway, finally, on Tuesday this week, he came home absolutely bubbling over about it, laughing and giggling so much we couldn't even understand his long-winded tale about who had said what and how funny it was! Was just lovely.

So - and sorry for long-winded post - I think it's natural to have second thoughts, and it may be a little unsettling, but I guess that you - like me - had very good genuine reasons for changing and didn't do it lightly. I think our decision, although not easy, was right and as long as you're confident with care of new nursery, even the most sensitive dc can cope with the change given a bit of TLC!!

Thanks for the input everyone - since posting I went to see new nursery again and feel reassured that it's the right thing to do. Also agree heartily with MoH that taking action (ie taking dc out) sends a strong message to underperforming nurseries. Now feel much better.

We changed at 9 months having started nursery 2 days a week at 5 months. This was not because of any problem with care at first nursery - DD loved it. We got a place at our first choice as someone left. It is just across the road whereas other one was a drive away and we only have one car and there was always risk of nodding of on way home. Now I just carry her across. It took a couple of weeks to resettle her but now loves this one too.
