My boy going to be 4 yrs old in the End of January. He has speech delay. He’s recently started talking three words together. Nursery thinks he’s not like other kids in his group peer. So they referred to HV visit to nursery and discuss about him further. They also concern his got development delay as well. I don’t think his got development delay except speech delay. They send a form to us to sign and give them authorised to do Asd as well. Iam not happy with that. He’s not showing any sign of asd.

Surely if there is a problem would you not want him to have a much help as possible with that? What are you not happy about? I rely on nursery and the teachers in school and their expertise in these areas.

I can totally understand that this has come as a surprise and that you're not happy.

However, the Nursery do see lots of children and seem to have some concerns.

They're recommending that he goes for assessment. This does not mean that he will get a diagnosis of ASD, he will simply be assessed for it.

If it turns out that he does have ASD, he will be able to access support that will help him with Nursery and then School.

It seems a little silly to not get him assessed. If he doesn't have ASD as you suspect Jen he won't get a diagnosis but if he does have it, it will unlock the support he'll need.

Are you already under speech and language for his speech delay? If not then you can self-refer to your local NHS speech and language department. You don't have to wait to be referred by nursery, HV or doctors.
