How many people drop off nursery waiting lists?

We are currently applying for nurseries for August when Ds is due to be thirteen months. I know we should have applied earlier, and it sounds silly saying it, but we didn't because he was in neonatal care and everything felt so touch and go that we couldn't plan for a future we were terrified wouldn't be.

One nursery we asked about has thirteen children for nine places. Another has eighty children for forty places, although this is throughout the nursery rather than in the room he'll be in. Another hasn't told us their waiting list, just we've been added.

We have two offers from nurseries which are not ideal (not great locations for our walking commutes, no car and one of these doesn't do lunch.) Wondering if we should grab one of these when we can or hang on for one of the other three.

The one we want most is the one with a waiting list of eighty. I'm stupidly hoping some folk might drop off along the way.

All the waiting list ones will tell us in April or May.

We are seeing a nursery next to parents in law tonight too, which would work but also probably has a huge waiting list.

How much is the deposit for the nurseries which have space? If it’s affordable and you’re prepared to lose the deposit, I’d secure a space at one of them and also go on the waiting list for any others you’d prefer.

You may have more luck asking for a place from September - the older children leave to go to school.
