not eating at nursery

my 2 yr little boy doesn't eat at nursery. well he doesn't eat any lunch at all, he does eat the afternoon tea sometimes (usually sandwiches) and he eats breadsticks when offered.

He's going through a funny eating stage at home too but the thing that surprises me is he doesn't even eat his favourite foods at lunchtime at the nursery (at the moment sausages and pasta).

they say he sits with the others while they eat but just pushes the plate away - so it's not that he's too busy playing to eat.

Has anyone else had this? Is there anything I can do?

I've got the same problem! My dd (18m) won't eat lunch at nursery either. They have a breakfasty snack at 10 and afternoon tea at 3, and she eats all that, but at lunch she apparently just sits with her thumb in her mouth and won't eat a thing - not even dessert. On several occasions she has fallen asleep at the lunch table too. They've taken to offering her bread and butter as an alternative, but some days she won't even eat that.

She usually has a big drink of cow's milk with me first thing in the morning, and I've tried cutting down on that, but that just ends up with her being extremely miserable before going to nursery, which dp isn't happy about as he's the one who gets her ready. So I've completely run out of solutions and have resorted to hoping it's just a phase (it's been going on for about 2 months now).

I was hoping just a phase too - but it's been the same since he started back in October! He did actually eat the one time I sat in on lunch while settling him - it was pasta though.

The falling aleep at the table has got me thinking - perhaps he's too tired to eat when they serve lunch. He does normally nap a little earlier when at home and eat lunch afterwards. Not sure what I can do about that though - they all eat at the same time

What do they give your dd for breakfast snack? It's just toast at ours so can't be filling him up for the day until teatime.

Yes, I think the tiredness is an issue. Mind you, she always used to fall asleep after lunch (they all tend to go to sleep together), and one of the staff mentioned the other day that it's started to look as if she's going to sleep before lunch on purpose to avoid eating!

They have different things on different days for breakfast - porridge, Weetabix, cornflakes, toast, croissants, pitta bread etc. She loves cereal so often eats two bowls of it, which might be filling her up a bit too much, but she still doesn't eat lunch on the days she doesn't eat much breakfast, so I'd almost rather she ate lots of breakfast so she doesn't starve.

Pasta is another story - she won't eat any shape of pasta apart from spaghetti. If I dare to give her spirals, or bows, or anything that isn't spaghetti, she looks at me as if I''ve mortally offended her and pushes the plate away. But the same sauce on spaghetti - absolutely fine!

I'm hoping one day it will all make sense...
