found a great nursery just up road from where i live. His friend goes there. It seems really nice but is £93 a week for two mornings a week. Is this too much

i paid, £75 for 5 mornings in the 3 years dd was there it went up to £110.00 for the 5 mornings....

i suppose it depends on the area though

gosh it sounds quite a lot - i pay £35 a day (£40 with evening meal later pick up) for childminder in london. but i'm not good on what nurseries cost. you could ring tax credits and ask what you'd get from them?

Is this inner London.. I've never heard of a nursery charging this much. Is it very special?

To give you an idea I pay I think £37 per day including meals from 0815-5.15. This is for a 4 year old - it's slightly more for younger children due to staff ratios. Also we are in the Midlands - probably costs more in the South East - not sure where you are. It still sounds a lot to me though.

I pay £17.50 for a morning.

I would only pay that (a) if I was made of money and (b) if every child had it's own bed/ room.

An old neighbour of mine started a chain of "bespoke" day nurseries. A home from home type place where each child had it's own "room" (cubicle type thing) with it's own wardrobe of clothes etc, so they could be dropped off early in the morning in their nightclothes and collected, bathed and ready for bed. They would have charged prices like that. If it's just a regular day nursery then it's a rip off.

About £60 a day is the avg price in the South East I think.

Oh, you're not far from me. I think the nurseries in Muswell Hill are about £60 per day, just so you have a guide. Don't know any over your way though.

yes highgate luckily i live above my work so not expensive. Muswell is not far. What is nursery like? Ds never been away from me has it got a good settling in period

I wouldn't assume Tax Credits will pay 80% of any amount , they might cap it according to whatever they deem a reasonable rate and they have been known to overpay and demand some back. You'd also be looking to make up the 20% which at that rate is still ££

I haven't been to a mumsnet meet up in the area, but I do help organise an NCT Bumps, Babies and Toddlers which has just started. It's at the CUFOS community centre at the top of The Avenue, N10 every Tuesday from 2.30 to 4.30pm. It's a bit out of your way, but you'd be welcome of course.

There is a charge of £1.50 for the tea and biscuits etc and there are toys from babies up to toddlers.

no want him to mix with other children. I know cm have other children but kinda like school enviroment. So he wont be too distraught when he is a big boy

Wow! I pay £8 for a session for my dd2 age 2.5. That is for 3 hours. So £16 per week...PMSL at the difference.

but he can go to pre-school as well which is free the term after they turn 3 if they only go for 2.5 hours, by law you can collect them after 25 hours and they cannot charge you...much cheaper than daycare nursery.
