Nursery closing early almost every single Friday

Hi everyone,
Our nursery closing earlier on Friday almost every single week.. they'll just give a call-" oh please pick up your child by 3pm".
Reasons for closing:
Winter/autumn/early spring- heavy raining, windy, cold, boiler doesn't work properly
Summer- too hot

I don't think our workplaces sending us home because of bad weather and I'm quite fed up to ask my boss to leave earlier almost every single Friday (my husband works in other city). I just received an email this evening that tomorrow they are asking to pick up all kids earlier DUE TO HOT WEATHER, I'm boiling inside... I'm paying a lot for that nursery and I believe unless it's hurricane, flooding or something else SERIOUS, they should be open full day!

In my nursery we sometimes close slightly early on the day of our Christmas party if it falls on a Friday and that’s it! This is with plenty of notice and Any other day we are open to provide the full care that parents are paying for!

It’s almost certainly due to staffing. There’s a serious problem in getting nursery staff at the moment, not helped by the Government invalidating a lot of qualifications so they can’t count for ratios.

Nurseries in our area are refusing care for whole weeks at a time.

I understand that almost every single business is short of staff. But... They could be honest and speak with parents. I'm fed up of these stories like broken boiler every week in December. And I'm fed up that I need to fight for refunds.

They NEVER refunded. They were closed more than a month (long story) and I was fighting with emails more than two weeks to get refund.

They need to and if it is the boiler fine - demand a refund and then on the others just don’t - I can’t get there until 5 pm - too hot go inside in the shade, it’s raining - go inside where it isnt

list dates and time and email owners and managers sounds like staff are using it as an excuse to bunk off early

Do they close when it’s hot on or raining on a Thursday or only on a Friday? P

Usually it's Friday but it happens on other weekdays too. I know it was a huge drama regarding these closures, so they started "parent picnic" at 3pm on Friday and asking to take kids at 4pm-when nursery should be open until 6.30pm!
Anyway, we are looking for another nursery.
They were closed last week to because some staff members got Covid. So last couple of months - every bloody week something happened....

And by the way, I'm still fighting for refund, they offered me "extra" session when they can't even manage for current time sheets.

Deduct what they owe you from next months payment. “I helped you out by sorting my refund”
and yes, go elsewhere

If he has lots of friends there I would consider banding together with the the other parents (maybe start a WhatsApp group?) then you can send a joint email stating the regular Friday closures are unacceptable. I think they will freak out if they risk losing several children at once.

Comedycook · 27/11/2022 18:28

I'd be very suspicious as to why this happens on a Friday as opposed to any other day. Would make me think the staff just want to start the weekend early

NurseryNurse10 · 29/11/2022 14:51

@Meklk I agree with you. It will most likely be down to staffing issues. Probably no level 3 member of staff available to run the room (going by my own experience as an agency worker).

Never heard of nurseries closing early due to hot weather!!!! And I've worked in a few. Can believe it if boiler wasnt working as rooms need to be a certain temperature.
