does anyone know at what age to you begin the application for this?
I know it starts from 3yo but think you have to apply in advance?

thanks

It's the school term after their third birthday. You need to set up an account on gov.uk to be able to apply.

Oh actually, I'm getting mixed up with tax free childcare there. I'm not sure if you need the account or whether nursery claims for the child.

thanks @TokenGinger
I think you set up an account before hand - I've done it before but couldn't remember what the age was..

Funnily enough, I literally just got mine this morning. DS is 3 this month so eligible from September. We have the gov.uk account, and they've sent a message to there with our eligibility code which we need to give to the provider so that they can claim the free hours x

I applied month before turning 3

Have you looked at ChildcareChoices.gov.Uk?

You can apply when the child is 2 3/4.
