Nursery illnesses

Hi everyone!

My 1 year old has just started nursery and although I'd been warned he would literally be ill as soon as he walked in, I hadn't quite prepared myself for how much! He's had a cold/cough, vomiting bug and now COVID which has an awful cough within 2 weeks. The nursery have said it usually takes about a month, but I have a feeling it's going to be a lot longer than that. I was up all night last night as he has an awful cough to the point where he vomits. We called 111 and they weren't particularly helpful and apparently we just have to ride it out.

Anyone out there who can tell me their experiences and how long my LO is going to be relentlessly ill for?

The first season at nursery is absolutely brutal for germs. And by 'season' I mean, probably three months.

DD had every minor infection known to man in that period (it was winter, which probably made it worse) - every snot bug, every puke bug, every random rash and fever bug - and this was all before Covid.

Her second winter at nursery was much better, but still pretty grim.

Now she's 5yo and in reception and rarely gets ill - and when she does it's a fleeting cold or ear infection (touch wood).

@NewYearEveryYear

Thank you. Do you think as spring is coming it won't be as bad - lol.

I'm due to go back to work in 4 weeks and I'm worried I'm going to have to be at home to look after LO as soon as I go back!

Yeah... It's bad. Before Christmas, DD(2) seemed barely to have a week in before she'd have to be off again with some disgusting snot or vomit related illness. It's a bit better now that they can play outside more in the fresh air, but it's brutal.

We started nursery in September, so far had a new cold every week, tonsillitis, conjunctivitis, vomiting, ear infections, chicken pox and this week covid. Two hospital trips and 2 lots of antibiotics doesn't seem 2 bad considering! I desperately hope warmer weather brings some relief!

Oh and I've had 7 separate occasions off work now to look after him!
