Nursery Waiting Lists - When to Contact them?

I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant.
DP has said we need to start getting in touch with nurseries now for the baby as the waiting lists are so long. They wouldn't be going to nursery until they're 1 years old for 3 days per week we are thinking.
Is it too soon to book a place and get on the wait list? DP is adamant we need to do it now!
The nursery we want is just down the road and is 'Outstanding' and has a good reputation so we'd like that one but I didn't even consider contacting them this soon!

I went back to work last month after 14 months of maternity leave. Baby was 14 months old. She'd been on the list since I was 6 months pregnant.

If you've got somewhere in mind then definitely get them on the list now! You can always change your mind closer to the time.
We are moving house soon and I enquired about four months ago about visiting various nurseries to transfer my son into and I couldn't even go and look at them as their wait lists were so long they just weren't putting any more kids on.
