Needing pcr to go to nursery

My little one is constantly catching coughs. I think I’ve now done 5 pcr tests on her for coughs. Nursery demands a negative pcr test before they can return to nursery. Wanted to find out how wide spread this policy is?

Totally normal in my experience.

PartyPlan · 09/02/2022 21:40

Mine were really strict on this but have eased off now and they aren’t demanding one for every little cough.

Userblabla · 09/02/2022 21:41

Same at my DC’s nursery. I’ve lost count of PCR’s as DC has cough variant asthma so every cold means a cough as well.

Lipsandlashes · 09/02/2022 21:42

They won’t be by the end of the month, so I’d maybe just pay lip service until then

TulipsGarden · 09/02/2022 21:59

Yup. I've lost count, mine often gets a fever with a cold and has asthma so it always turns into a cough.

Have you seen that reported or is it just wishful thinking? I’m hoping the same, but won’t be surprised if schools and nurseries carry on as they are. They still have vulnerable children and staff to consider.

Thanks all. As of yet every pcr we have done has been negative. Currently waiting on results of the one we did today and hoping it comes in tomorrow. It’s the time off work all the time while waiting for the results. I’m not holding my breath that anything is going to change any time soon.

My DS’s nursery is only asking for lft now. Hopefully they’ll wind down the testing program at some point or scale it back so that it’s no longer possible for nurseries to ask for tests for every cough. I believe wales has removed the requirement to test under 5s on the basis it’s so difficult and traumatic for them.

Lipsandlashes · 10/02/2022 08:30

@Userblabla I’m thinking that with the drop all in restrictions by the end of Feb that there won’t be the availability of test that there are now - it may be that we would have to pay for them. So I think schools and nurseries will have to ease off

Userblabla · 10/02/2022 11:41

I hope you’re right, that would be a big relief!

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/02/2022 15:56

Totally normal, same fir schools

My reception child would cough once and get sent home for pcr

So ended up booking one fir sat am so results back fir Monday

I personally hope that there are changes because parents surely can’t keep missing work and paying for childcare they can’t use to get constant pcr tests.
