What will my baby need for nursery?

He has two settling in sessions next week, so I’ll ask then, but hoping to get organised this weekend as next one might be a bit manic.

He will be eight and a half months when he starts. He doesn’t really eat solids but am hoping this will improve. Do I need to provide formula milk and bottles? How about nappies and wipes?

I’m guessing I need to pack spare clothes - how many? I was thinking the days outfit and a couple of spares plus additional bibs (he’s a dribbler!)

Anything else that might help him? Am really keen for this to go as smoothly as possible for him.

I’d email the nursery and ask as they all have different lists. For example at ours we don’t have to provide nappies, wipes or formula (just tell them which one baby has!) as our fees cover it all. So we only need to send a change of clothes (or 2 depending on what your little one is like) and a coat/all in one for outdoor play. We also send in wellies or similar if they are walking.

I'm surprised if he's attending settling in sessions next week they have yet to tell you basics such as what they do and do not provide.

Many nurseries include this information on their website or in their brochures so maybe have a check there. If not I'd definitely email or phone them as it really does depend on the setting.

My son has;
Nappies, wipes, nappy cream
(used to have) formula in pots ready to be mixed
bottles. Now just a clean cup for his milk
water bottle
3 changes of clothes- nursery can be very messy. It used to be 2 but had to up it haha.
a blanket for nap time
comforter
hat for outdoors and sun cream if it's sunny

Nurseries usually have their way of doing things so ask :)

Agree they are all different. We have to provide nappies/wipes/cream - they have a fair bit of storage though so we can send it in bulk. Formula has to be an unopened pack which they then keep there.

Another one worth asking about is sun cream - our nursery provides it but not everywhere does.

Since Covid we have to send in our own teething toys if they are needed.

One thing is to get a bunch of name labels printed. Then you can stick easily to any bottles or beakers, his clothing, coat, bags etc. Online you can usually get ones suitable for fabric or washable. Less chance of things getting lost.

Tumbleweed101 · 23/08/2021 22:37

Check with your nursery as they are all different.

We would need your own bottles and formula and details of when you give it to them.
Nappies and wipes.
A couple of changes of clothes as nappies can leak and depending on how mobile your baby is if they are outside they can get wet/dirty.
Appropriate coat or sun cream etc as required.
Nap time comforters, own blankets or sleeping bags if this is important to them.
Comfort objects.
Any medications/creams.

We provide everything else, it's more the personal stuff that we need provided by parents.

Our nursery provides everything so only need to provide change of clothes/sunhat and if you want to provide anything personal/bespoke like certain nappy cream/suntan lotion.

StarfishDish · 24/08/2021 12:02

We send in:
Nappies
Wipes
Bottles
Formula
Change of Clothes
Dummy/Comforter Smile
