Really anxious about my little boy starting nursery...

My son is nearly 2 and a half and he starts nursery properly next week. He's only doing two mornings a week for now.

He had a settling in session on Monday for an hour, I was able to stay with him and he absolutely loved it! Don't think he looked for me once! He also cried when we had to leave.

He had another settling in session on Wednesday for an hour but this time I didn't stay. He was handed over fine, no tears said goodbye to me and that was that. Picked him up an hour later and he was hysterical crying. I couldn't bare it. They said he had been fine up until about 10 minutes before I picked him up.

He's got a 2 hour settling in session tomorrow and I'm just not sure I can take it. It absolutely broke my heart seeing him so upset. I know nursery is good for them but I'm just thinking this may all be a bit too much.

Please tell me it gets better 😩

It does get better and you'll find you have ups and downs depending on their mood/how tired they are etc, all the usual stuff. I'm sure they would be more than happy for you to ring and make sure he's settled OK and they do say they get upset when you come back as they only then realise you weren't there!
He will make little pals and the tears will stop, it will get better and then you will love hearing his stories about what he's do e that day and who hes played with. Best thing we did for my lo

We did find quick drop offs were far far better for avoiding the tears than protracted ones or even just ones that involved a quick chat. We had to leave the chatting for pick ups instead!
