How would you feel if you heard this.

I overheard a parent at my child's nursery saying she would not be prepared to keep her child off and pay fees because they had a cough and a cold the mum said it was just a cold and that they were full of snot which is why they were coughing. I was livid, in normal circumstances I get it but we are still not out of the woods with covid. Are there really parents out there who think this is OK?

My daughter has had a snotty nose and cough for 6 weeks. She had a negative Covid test at the beginning of this period, she just can’t shake this cold. No way would I be keeping her off nursery until this stopped, she’d never go back.

Mine's been the same! And if i did keep her off all year until it finally went away, she'd then have no immune system, catch a cold within 48 of seeing anothwr child and we'd be back to square one!

How I would feel is I would choose to ignore it.
I don't believe in Safety First.
Kids have paid a high price already.
Families esp. working parents have paid a high price already.
Tots & preschoolers are normal to be full of cold symptoms.
The test is mildly horrid for a wee child, too.

At some point we have to accept covid as just one of a million viruses in circulation, mostly harmless to most people, sometimes not. The sooner the better.

But they had a negative test and no new symptoms so that’s the guidelines.

My son is also week 7 of a post viral cough but we took him for a pcr test which was negative and he’s been in nursery for the 7 weeks no problem

I wouldn’t be livid , but I can understand where you are coming from . The past 15 months have been difficult.

I’ve dropped my toddler off at nursery with a cold and cough ( and a negative Covid test ), I’m sure other parents have glared at me thinking the worst .

Like a previous poster said , I’m pro lockdown. I’m also realistic . Kids regularly get colds and a snotty ,runny nose is not a Covid symptom. However, nurseries won’t ( shouldn’t ) allow new continuous coughs ( without a negative Covid test ). From what I’ve read on another thread, PCR tests are giving you results in less than 24 hours at the moment.

Surely the child takes a test. Results usually back in a day so it’s one day off childcare setting

Negative results child goes back. all ok.

Positive then obv self isolate for 10 days
