Do you get an update from nursery?

We used to get a update every time our ds attended nursery (2 days a week). We'd get this online. But now we don't get anything eg what he's had to eat, what activities he's done etc. The staff don't really give much info at the end of the day as they seem so busy. Wondering if this is normal? Or would you expect an update?

We get updates at the end of each day.
It’s every nappy change, all food offered and eaten & the activities done that day.
Usually a photo or 2.

I wouldn’t be happy with no info.

To add- we get it on an app. We can also add observations & photographs from home and can comment on the obs from nursery.

Before COVID the nursery gave an update at pickup. Now they use an app to give updates on sleep, nappies and activities. I would expect an update

Thank you for your replies! I wasn't quite sure if I was being unreasonable expecting an update! But I will ask them if they're starting them up again, it's always handy to know!

Yes. We have an app that records everything, but I also normally have a quick chat at pick up time.
On the app, it's normally what he eats and at what time, nappy changes, when and how long the nap was, plus photos and brief comments on development milestones (like a pic of him holding a stick and a comment saying how during an activity he repeated the word 'stick' meeting his language milestone of naming objects).

I would mention that to the manager if I was you.

Totally agree, that is necessary to receive all the info about your child

InkieNecro · 21/05/2021 10:11

Yes, when I pick them up someone from their class brings them to the door, tells me what they've eaten, how much, what they played with, who they played with, any planned activities, garden time, any trips or falls and if they have needed a time out.

I wouldn't be happy not knowing what they've been doing all morning! Especially as my youngest likes to tell me that he eats the staff members which they tell me is not true Grin

Has your child moved to a new room/stage? Our under twos have a daily diary but over this age it’s a verbal update at pick up and tapestry entries for progress or contact. This is because staff simply dont have time in session as the children are more active and the ratio is different.

My DC nursery is really crap at this and it's beginning to annoy me. Some days we get a picture on WhatsApp and some days no picture at all. Some days at pick up, there will be a full run down of what he ate but most days just "he's had a good day, slept for xxminutes" and that's it. Now that we can't go in the nursery and have to pick up at the door, therereally isn't much insight to what's going on. These comments have encouraged me to raise it as I feel the same as you OP.

We don't have an app, and it has changed as she's gone up through the rooms. Now she's in the preschool room which is the oldest age group and it's just a verbal run through of what she ate and maybe what they did. Whereas with DD2 in babies we still get a book home with much more detail. I wouldn't be happy with no info at all though.
