Hi all,

Just a heads up, we are making some changes to the childcare sections and are planning to combine this topic with a new, larger childcare, nannies, nurseries & au pairs topic next week. The new board will just be called Childcare and it will be available via the Talk homepage. All current threads will be moved there too so your conversations will not be lost.

We understand some users may find this disruptive but having lots of different topics makes navigation tricky and leads to similar discussions happening in multiple places. Where topics are lightly used and it makes sense to combine them we will, but we wanted to give you a heads up before making any changes.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I disagree with the idea that nurseries are lumped in with childcare.

Early years education is about education, and is often used interchangeably for pre-schools.

Day nurseries provide childcare for working parents. That's different to a school nursery. It is confusing that we use the word nursery for both, but that's not a Mumsnet issue, those are the widely used terms.

It would be more confusing to have people looking for childcare for a 6 month old being told they have to go to the education section because they're using a day nursery and that's the same word we use for early years education!

That's exactly why I think it needs to remain standalone.

So it covers both those looking for daycare and those choosing a pre-school. And of course the many parents who are looking at both aspects
