Exhausted/shrieky after nursery - needs a change?

DS (nearly 2) has been at nursery 2 days a week since he was 1. He's always been pretty shattered at the end of the day and finds the transition hard, tantrums in the evening, cross the day after those 2 days, etc. I like the place, & he seems to enjoy it, but of course it is very different to one-on-one time with one of us at home. It seems like a lot of time in one room (8-9 kids)with a bit of outside time. I'm wondering if he would do better with a CM? Or whether the disruption would be really hard? He has friends there, too - tricky. (And would a CM do 2 days a week anyway?) All advice/experiences very helpful , thank you...

What about having a nanny?

Mine had a childminder for 2.5 days per week. She then started nursery gradually, reducing her time at the childminder, btu always keeping a large chunk of time there. I think she did find it a relief to have the more homely environment of a childminder some of the time and made some very lose friends there. But she also loved nursery. Could you do a combination of both, or would that be too many different environments in a short space of time? My childminder had children who only came two days a week, and less often too.
