Hi,

First time mum here and my boy will be starting nursery next year age 1.

We have our eyes on two nurseries in Manchester, a "conventional" chain nursery called Kids Allowed and a Montessori Nursery called Holly Tree.

I don't really know anything about Montessori nurseries but their ethos and philosophy looks nice! My only slight concern is that children may be slightly less "school ready" due to a lack of a formal "curriculum" and informal testing - I am however not in favour of very young children being sat down and made to do tests all the time.

They are both very highly OFSTED rated which helps but I just wondered whether anyone had any deeper experience with Montessori nurseries or had any info to share.

Thanks

I think it very much depends on a child's character.
Montessori is excellent for children who can lead their own learning and are self-motivated, perhaps not so great for children who need a bit of a push.
That's just my opinion (I'm child free and a teacher - not early years).

But I'd go Montessori all the way if I were you!

All nurseries and pre schools follow the same curriculum, the Early Years Foundation Stage
The difference is in how it is delivered

My daughter went to a Montessori nursery, and she was as school ready as they can be. There still are milestones children have to meet. I would say - Montessori all the way.
