Cot Mattresses

Hi,

My LO is starting nursery soon. I've been thinking about how it works with their naps- the advise to parents is to always to buy new mattresses at home to prevent SIDS. What do they do in nurseries commonly? Do they buy a new mattress for new babies who join or do they share them?

Thanks!

As a childminder, I have clean bedding for each baby and replace mattresses (and car seats and pushchairs and highchairs) regularly but not a new one for each baby. I think that’s a bit unrealistic.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I thought it would be a bit unrealistic to buy one each time!

We don't buy new mattresses for new babies but babies are not sleeping overnight and are never left on their own
Each baby will have their own bedding so they don't share bedding
Also, we do visual sleep checks every 10 minutes which get recorded and filed away
We have risk assessments coming out of our ears but even we don't have one for the mattresses, because our control measures make it unnecessary

The mattress thing is due to spores building up in stored mattresses...if you put them away for next baby. Childcare settings...nursery and childminder...regularly replace and babys are monitored when sleeping.

Ok thanks both, that makes sense!
