Where abouts in Dulwich are you moving to ? That's where I live. My ds (12 months) goes to a Teddies nursery in West Dulwich. He loves it, and I'm really happy with them. He's been there since he was 3.5 months old and no real complaints to date.

My DS (8 months) starts at Dulwich Day Nursery in West Dulwich on Jan. My DD went there a few years ago and I was happy with it - it has recently been refurbished and rebranded. There is also a nursery on Clive Rd called Clive Hall and Nelly's on Turney Rd (which has a waiting list I think).

does anyone have any experience of sending their DCs to the Mother Goose nursery in E Dulwich? Specifically upstairs, with the 1-2 year olds?

porkpie · 25/01/2008 17:47

My DS has been at Mother Goose since last September, though not upstairs, he was 2.5 when he started. Tbh this nursery hasn't lived up to my expectations, we weren't given any sort of induction when we joined, and nobody seemed to know who was to be ds's key worker. In the second week they gave him meat for tea, even though I'd stated that he was vegetarian on all the relevant paperwork, and recently I discovered they were putting him in nappies for nap time, even though he's been fully toilet trained for 3 months and with no accidents.
I noticed that in their recent Ofsted report, they only scored 'satisfactory' in each area, whereas four years ago they scored 'good' in all categories. I think the place is looking pretty tired and shabby at the moment, and I think they should be trying a lot harder. DS is still on the waiting list for First Steps Montessori which is a couple of doors up, and IMO seems a whole lot better.

Thanks PorkPie. The Ofsted report I saw when
I looked round said they were 'good'! The other one's been published since, seems like.

My 13 mo DD is settling in at the moment, but I've had reservations about it since staying with her and observing the staff etc. DH and I think the place as a whole seems a bit shabby, manager seems a bit desperate, staff seem a bit disconnected.

Have no choice now really, as due back at work next week, but my older DD goes to Gumboots and that seems a happier place somehow, and everything seems to run smoother, the staff seem more engaged. She was down for the First Steps at well, but Gumboots came up first!

Well I hope it works out ok for your little one. Have you kept her on any other waiting lists just in case? Though I know it doesn't feel right to settle them in somewhere and then take them out again. I'm just trying to find the right time and the right words to have a chat with the manager about my observations.
After our first settling in day I just panicked and thought OMG why did I choose that place, however DS does seem to like it at the moment.

Mother Goose in Waverney Av near Peckham Rye park is excellent, also just got outstanding ofstead report. DS went there and had no problems, just got DD a place there too.
