What age is PreSchool

I'm a bit confused...my son who turned 3 years old in December has just been moved to the pre school class within his nursery. Am I right in thinking that this will mean he will be in pre school for over a year?

I'm thinking he will start school in September 2021 as that's the first September he will be 4. Is that right?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, he's my first.

Thanks!

Not stupid questions at all.
Yes, he will start school in Sept 2021.
Yes, he will be in the pre-school room for 5 terms.
Yes, it is normal to spend 5 terms in pre-school.
They move up ito the preschool room at 3, as the ratios change. There needs to be an adult for every 3 children under 2
An adult for every 4 children aged 2 - 3 and
An adult for every 8 children aged 3 +
