This may be a bit pfb but what can I do to ease ds (2.9) through the transistion from CM to nursery?

He will be 2.10 when he moves from CM to a day nursery, 3 days a week.
We are moving him for a whole range of reasons which we are happy with. However, his current CM has not helped by making a (typically undermining) comment - "well, he's not ready for nursery, he will find it all too difficult".

Am now feeling the mummy guilt, which I am sure was her intention!!

He will have a settling in week before he starts. Do I talk to him before he moves or just do it when the time comes?

Any advice would be appreciated!

beansprout I worked in a nursery(KU) for 2 years and in the preschool room we often had children of ds's age start as a 'taster' for school. I personally think it's a good idea to talk to him as much as possible about the move to nursery. Take him to it if you can out of hours and park up outside and show him the building. Tell him all th enew friends he'll make and the new games/activities he can do.
The settling sessions will def help. find out who his key worker is and make sure ds spends alot of time with her/him during his settles. Where i worked the parent left the child for longer epriods of time at each session. Should be ok for you to sit in the staffroom or similar and then the last session was a 1-2 hour stay on their own.
There will be tears but you'll be amazed how quicly he will adjust. wish you all the luck as my ds is 18m and has never been away from me except with family so have all this to come!
