I have always understood that the ratio to go out of the nursery environment on an outing is 1:2 but I have been trying to justify this knowledge I have gained from previous manager and I can't find any written evidence stating this is the case. Please can someone let me know what is right.

There is no legal ratio for outings.
However you are expected to use "good practice"!
If I send my staff on a trip/outing then I half my ratio. eg 4 x 3 year olds to 1 person or 4 x school children each. Also it depends on the staff and the children I may even send another staff member as well, I always make sure it it either my Deputy or myself who goes on any trips. So I assess each outing separately.
We dont let our babies go on outings/trips.
Sorry this probably doesnt help, Im assuming you are being sent on trips with too many children..or within ratio but not feeling safe.

We have a field that is owned by the council right next to our building. The children have to walk through a very quiet car park to get to it and we hardly ever use it as I have always believed that the ratio is 1:2. I am now very excited to think we will be able to go out every day!

That will be fantastic for you.
You'll have to remember though that if you have an accident or a child needs the toilet then you will still have to show you are in ratios.
so if you send only 2 staff out and then a child desperatley needs the loo you would all have to go back.

Thats fine. We are a very small nursery so we would all go out at the same time. Thank you for your advice.
