22 month old upset

My 22 month old just gets really upset at nursery all the time he goes one day a week and has only been going for five weeks but they say he is upset all the time and that the only time he is ok is when most of the other children are asleep he refuses to sleep and plays when they are sleeping but that when they start to wake up again he gets upset not sure what to do? Difficult to spread his days due to shift work and childcare. He is mega clingy to me his mum! He is fine if left with family cries for about 5seconds but then is fine but just won't settle at nursery

Maybe it's just too busy for him? But remember that going one day a week for 5 weeks, isn't even as much settling as a child who has gone for a full 5 day week, because of the gaps in between. It might take a little longer, or you may need to try somewhere smaller.

Well I didn't think it had been long enough for him to settle but the nursery seem to think he should be settling by now! I know it's a long time between visits he is ok with family children etc I thought about noise and was tempted to get his ears checked as he initially failed hearing test as a baby so wondered about noise xx

The problem with nurseries is that all the children are expected to sleep and wake up at the same time but kids are individuals.

22 months is a bit young, I'd give it another year.

Can you get him in for a run of days- say three days in a row?

It's just difficult to know what to do as I don't want to take him out as will be harder next time round! Not really as the nursery doesn't open till 7:30 and me n hubby both have to be at work before then and the cost of three days a week is extortionate ha ha! And the fact he's ok when the others are asleep ha ha he will eat there now which he didn't do initially and I didn't expect him to sleep as only sleeps in a cot normally! It's just the fact he won't play with other kids and just cries when they are awake x

I would imagine this is pretty normal.

Our nursery do not accept children for less than 2 full days per week as they say they need this as a minimum to settle.

My DD goes 4-5 days per week and is totally into the routine but at the start it was really hard, but I have no doubt she’d have taken much longer to settle if only going 1 day per week.
