Hi everyone! Been meaning to start work soon , looking into childcare. What basic qualifications would I need. I've seen lots of job descriptions but still not able to gather.

You will need a level 2 or 3 in early years. Some settings will take you on initially unqualified and help you access training but others will want you to go to college and get your qualifications and experience first. Try contacting your local colleges and see what courses they offer.

Thanks! I was looking into doing courses online though.

I don't think you could do an online course, you would need to do a placement at the very least.

kimlo · 28/02/2018 10:38

as part of any course I mean.

You can do online courses but I think you'd be better attending a local authority run one. And you will need to go on a placement as other posters have said. NVQ2 or NVQ3 qualifications would be a good idea IMHO. Don't waste your money doing some online course where the qualifications won't be recognised by employers.

Yeah you can't just do a random online course. You have to get in contact with a college.

Would you consider and apprenticeship? Then you could work, earn and get your qualification.

Childcare is not easy mind you it's certainly not for the faint hearted. It is stressful, awfully paid and absolutely relentless.
