Tips to get DS settled into nursery?

2 year (27month) old DS had his second visit to nursery today, both mornings I stayed in the office to watch him and all he did for a solid hour each time was walk around sobbing inconsolably (which in turn had me crying like a loon in the office)

Any tips to make it an easy transition for kids who aren't used to being left anywhere without me or DH?

The girls at the nursery just say it'll take a few weeks to get him used to it but I can't do that to him over and over I know I can't

:((

That sounds horrible for you. I would stay in the room for him for a few sessions but keep reiterating that the key worker is there to look after him, that he/she will be looking after him while you work, that you'll miss him but be back after tea. Make a big deal of how great it will be at nursery when you are at home.

I've just been through this with my 2.5 year old. I basically spent the first two sessions there with her, I popped out for short periods to 'for a cup of tea' but stayed in reception and went back in if she needed. The third day I stayed for the first hour, picked her up at 4 and she was loving it. She's been pretty fine ever since.

What were the staff doing? As long as they're trying to distract him eventually he will realise there's fun to be had. If they're just ignoring him obviously not so good!
