ChocolatePeanut's thread has reminded me of a current dilemma: the only local nursery that could take our son seems to have absolutely no security at the front door. On the day that we went to have a look around, we just walked right in and were in the middle of one of the main rooms before anyone intercepted us and asked who we were. I've talked to another mum whose son goes there and she says it's always like that - parents just wander in and out without staff checking identities. Is this normal? The only other nursery I've used practically checked your irises before letting you past the front gate.

Bad bad bad. I would really complain about that. It's totally unacceptable, if it's a chain I would escalate it to their head office (if there is one) or consider "taking advice" from OFSTED if the nursery manager doesn't address it. This may sound really obnoxious, but this is one area where you have to be really firm. If anything, as the children get older, could they themselves open the doors and get out?!

No its not acceptabel and not normal that you could walk in like that., besides which could,'t children just leave ?

is this a day care nursery or a pre school/playgroup. although it deosn't really matter.

I would have a look at theri OFSTED report and see if that mentions anything about secuirty , or you could make a compliant to OFSTED about it.

I would have serious concerns about sending my child there.

I'm glad it's not just me! It's actually a Montessori. It's new, so the Ofsted isn't available yet (or wasn't a couple of months ago, but that's a good idea - I'll check the Ofsted site to see whether it's come in yet.)
