My 2-year-old DS was very upset to the point of crying and throwing himself around when I came to take him from nursery the other day. I know I should be glad that he obviously enjoys it, but is this common?

Well I've certainly seen 2 or 3 children do it at our pre-school over the past couple of years. We often get it with children that come to play at the house as well - we do have an extensive trainset and they hate to leave it!!

I wouldn't worry about it. It's probably a phase. If he's only just started at nursery, or even just started to enjoy nursery, he'll probably calm down when he realises that he is going there on a regular basis.
