Hi I have a 7 month old who will be going nursery when he is one but my employer does not so childcare vouchers because they are not registered.

I asked the office manager whether they would consider joining the scheme and she said they will look into it. I heard it was free to join the scheme and the office manager said they have to pay a membership.

Can I do anything to get childcare vouchers. I am a single parent

Childcare vouchers are being phased out in favour of something that you access yourself rather than via employer. So not many new employers will bother joining up. There is not normally a membership fee I don't think but there is admin involved which in itself is an indirect cost to the business.

Does the baby's dad work for an employer that is in the scheme?

2015mom · 03/05/2016 09:10

Oh okay so when will this be in force where parents can access ourselves?

Google tax free childcare, it was due to start last autumn perhaps it already has?

That's been postponed mouldy and won't be coming in for a while.

There are costs associated with childcare voucher schemes and the most significant is that they cannot be deducted from SMP so if you have another maternity leave that could potentially incur some large-ish costs for them.

Ah k that's a shame for a lot of people. Govt website still says Autumn 2015 😜

Tax free childcare scheme is due to be rolled out during 2017. So at the moment I would say it may start for some by June 2017, possibly earlier but I would guess it will have a slow phase in stage initially.
