i want to go back to work but how much is nursery going to cost me???

I wud like to go back to work when dd is 6months old would just like to know how much ppl are paying to send thier children to nursery either full time or part time!!

about £28 per day round here (NW)for babies, slightly less for over 2s. can you get nursery vouchers from your work? this saves us a fair proportion of the cost.

approx £40 per day, £30 per half-day

or about £850 per month

Session costs and times vary from nursery to nursery and area to area, ds goes to nursery 4 afternoons a week (total of 20 hours a week) and it costs about 270 a month, food included.

Contact some local nurseries and ask them to send you a brochure or info on sessions times and costs etc...no obligations etc, but useful to do some comparisons.

morningpaper- 850 that seems alot to pay it wdnt be worth me going bak if it going to cost that!!

depending on whether your employer has a scheme (eg salary sacrifice) or you do it independently, and where you are in the country it can vary wildly.

We're south central (but in a posh town ), and for full time if you walk in off the street it's about £600 a month, but vouchers, salary sacrifice etc can bring it down to less than £400.

It depends why you are working

If you are working to escape the children it might be worth it

Where are you based? The bottom line is it that it is often not worth some people going back but dependent on your family income you might be eligible for help with costs.

I pay £31.50/day for DD. The childcare vouchers (ie get paid for them instead of in cash and don't pay tax on part/NI on all) help though.

i live in the midlands!
I cant ever imagine not going bak to work though im driving my self mad being on my own most of the time with the baby so i guess im going bak so i can be with other adults lol!!! Still not worth it though we are trying to save a deposit for a house so spendin all my wages on childcare wudnt eally help us!!! lol

Voucher scheme will help a lot.

check out local council nurseries, my sister used one, I hadn't even considered it and they are both good (trained staff, low turnover, good facilities) and cheap, about £20 a day maximum, less if you are on a low income or work for the council.

About £22 - £26 per day depending on the age of the child (this is in Birmingham).

Can you get childcare vouchers in a salary sacrifice scheme through work?

I live in West Midlands. We pay £90 for 3 full days but get more than this back with tax credits because our incomes are low.
