Sibling discount at nursery

butttons · 02/02/2016 14:10

I'm planning on sending DD2 to the same nursery as DS1 and was wondering if in general nurseries apply sibling discounts. If yes, what percentage discount is usual?
TIA!

Never come across a discount for siblings in nursery , around here a place in a good nursery is like gold dust, so no discounts.

VacheEspanol · 02/02/2016 22:22

We get a discount of 10% on both places. Also in an area where nursery places are in high demand but most offer a sibling discount.

didireallysaythat · 02/02/2016 22:23

Some give you a 5% discount (not sure why!) But I think for us it only applied for 5 day full time places.

Akire · 02/02/2016 22:24

Not seen any not unless nursery really needs places filled. No business reason if over subscribed.

unicornhelp · 02/02/2016 22:25

I get 10% off my older child's fees at our nursery.

StitchesInTime · 02/02/2016 22:29

We got a sibling discount off DS1's fees when DS2 started. Can't remember now if it was 5% or 10%.

butttons · 02/02/2016 22:35

Thanks all - sounds a bit mixed then.... Will see what I can negotiate!

I don't think do unless they are attending at the same time

ColdAndGloomy · 02/02/2016 22:42

We got 10% off dc2's fees - still do even though dc1 has left!

trilbydoll · 02/02/2016 22:44

We are getting 5% off dd1's fees even though dd2 hasn't started yet?! Not sure if it will continue to be 5% off her fees or 5% off the total.

DrSeussRevived · 02/02/2016 22:45

5% off the younger one, but it was advertised not negotiated!

HSMMaCM · 03/02/2016 10:54

Probably won't be any negotiation. Just ask and see what the answer is.

insancerre · 03/02/2016 17:46

We offer 7.5 % sibling discount

namechangedtoday15 · 03/02/2016 19:27

10% I think for 1 child but each had to do a minimum of 3 days. Actually can't remember now whether it was a sibling discount or a twin discount.

I think there is a business case actually - it's one less set of parents to deal with, if you're paying with vouchers for instance it's only one account to manage rather than 2, more stability (less likely to move as you have to find 2 places etc)

HSMMaCM · 03/02/2016 21:00

There is a business case for not offering a discount as well. Siblings leaving at the same time means more spaces to fill. Just as much assessment work to do. Same number of staff required. Costs to the business are the same and risks are higher, so why offer a discount.

namechangedtoday15 · 03/02/2016 22:46

It depends how you look at it - i meant from an administration point of view - managing the account (one rather than 2), if you had 30 sets of siblings taking up 60 places rather than 60 singletons, you'd probably have less child turnover so not as much management administration time taken up with registration of parents / child, showing them around the nursery. You wouldnt be producing 60 statements of account every month, it would be 30. Sweeping statements i know but not as black and white as saying "no business case". But I accept there is no benefit ratio wise etc for siblings.

I also think in certain parts of the country like here that nurseries try to compete cost wise with nannies when you have more than one child. In some cases 2 x nursery fees is similar to a nanny's rate so they perhaps offer a discount to encourage use of the nursery.

alltouchedout · 03/02/2016 22:50

I've used two nurseries which discounted the second child's fees by 10%. It's the same for the after school club I now use for my older two.

BackforGood · 03/02/2016 22:59

I've never come across a sibling discount - nor would I expect one. After all, the dc take up the same amount of all resources if they are related to another child or not.

HappyAsASandboy · 03/02/2016 23:59

We got 10% off the younger sibling when they both attended. We don't get a discount for DC3 as DC1 and DC2 have left!

ceeveebee · 04/02/2016 00:02

We get 14% off (twins, but same would apply to different age siblings if attending at the same time - it's a 6 month to 5 years place).
Previous nursery in London didn't offer any discount

butttons · 07/02/2016 22:12

Well after asking we will get 10% off DS1's fees when DD2 starts. And this is also a London nursery 😄

It was worth asking then

rallytog1 · 11/02/2016 15:01

That's really good. We get a discount of 50p per day!

Frazzled2207 · 11/02/2016 15:09

Good. I think we get 5% for younger siblings while the elder still attends.

butttons · 11/02/2016 21:33

frazzled that may end up working out similar to us as the older child has cheaper rates....
