Help! DD4 no longer likes her nursery

We're just a gnat's crochet from 4yo DD going to school in Sept and she's become really unsettled at nursery-I don't know whether to persevere or to change?

She's had a bit of upheaval lately with her Granddad dying, normal kids' illnesses and a house move soon but just lately there's floods of tears at the nursery door every morning. She has lots of friends there and she settles in well after I go, it's just the handover that's killing me. She wants to spend the day at Granny's house or come to work with me (both of which we've done when she's been ill) and nothing will console her.

So what do I do?

You remain very upbeat and hand her over to her key worker with a cuddle, a kiss and a "see you later, have a lovely day". You've said yourself that she is happy and settled when you've gone. This is likely to be a temporary reaction to the recent set of circumstances, plus the knowledge that she will soon be leaving to go to school. I really wouldn't change anything else just now.

My DD, also 4, and off to school in September has also been a bit like this recently. I have no doubts about the nursery whatsoever. It's lovely and DD is very popular. I just think she'd rather be with me as she comes to work with me one day a week and can't see why she can't come every day. I think, secretly, she enjoys the staff mollycoddling her when she's upset. I read her the riot act the other day though and told her she needed to stop playing up as she likes nursery and nobody wanted to see her sad. That seems to have worked and drop off has been a little easier.

I also wonder if it's an age thing and at 4, they're a bit bored and ready for school?
