I visited a lovely nursery right near my house, near the station. The only drawback is it costs £65 a day for 4 days and £70 for 3 days. Am in South East London - is this a lot?

I have contacted the two other closest nurseries and no-one even got back to me!

No, that's about right. I live near Cambridge, am a childminder and I'd charge approx £50 for a full 7:30 - 6:30 day.

CityDweller · 10/03/2015 17:49

Sounds right to me. Some nurseries near me are around £85 a day (Central London) and my cm has just put her rates up to £72 for a full day Shock.

glorious · 10/03/2015 17:49

Sounds very similar to local nurseries here in SE13. Sorry!

glorious · 10/03/2015 17:50

Oops auto correct! Will get postcode removed!

BasinHaircut · 10/03/2015 17:50

Fuck me. We are on the outskirts and its £46 a day!

CurlsLDN · 10/03/2015 17:53

I'm in SE22, average £75 a day. However I'm moving to the south west and our new nursery will be £40 a day, hurrah!

mandy214 · 12/03/2015 12:36

£819 for a 3 day week in the NW, which works out about £63 a day so not too dissimilar. Hours are 8-6. Ask about the payments if you're ever late. Our nursery was £11 for every 15 minutes!!

jumpinghoops · 25/03/2015 16:55

I just can't my head around such high fees. I've sent my children to 3 very good nurseries in East London (zone2-3), all between £42-46 a day. These fees just seem impossibly expensive to me.

Yvemen · 04/06/2015 11:45

We are in South East London too. It's £1066 for 4 days! ??

Artandco · 04/06/2015 11:48

Yep, it's £52 for ds2 to go to nursery just 3 hrs in the morning (zone 1, London). He goes 9am-12, mon-fri

LostMySocks · 06/06/2015 15:47

I'm in Z6 SE London. I pay £51 for a full day (7.30 to 6) but provide my own nappies. There is one that charges those rates but the rest are between 50 and 56. Unless it's beautiful, includes lots of extras it seems a bit steep. Are you paying a premium as it's good for the station

Finola1step · 06/06/2015 16:00

Our nursery, per day:
£69 - under 1
£65 - 1 year olds
£60 - 2 year olds.

All food and nappies provided. Outside London, in Kent near to station used by many of the parents to commute into London. Costs just over £100 pw for train ticket to central London.

So on that basis, £65 a day walkable from home and near a station in SE London is pretty reasonable.

grabaspoon · 06/06/2015 16:10

Im a nanny I get £80 a day [after tax] and then my bosses have to pay toddler group and expenses on top of that.

That's not too bad for an "all inclusive price"

NathalieM · 09/06/2015 16:51

I suppose that's the drawback on London prices. I've been told nurseries in Brighton are exactly the same.

electionfatigue · 11/06/2015 11:05

That's about right for London. Was v jealous when I went to see friends in Cornwall who pay £30 per day!

Purplehonesty · 11/06/2015 11:18

Wow that's expensive. I charge my mindees £30 a day here in Scotland 8.30-5.30

Must put my prices up....!

Millionprammiles · 11/06/2015 11:44

Zone 3 SW London - most nurseries around here that provide all nappies, food etc cost around £60-70/day (for under 2 yr olds).

There are cheaper Council nurseries but they're not all open all year round or full days.

The care can no doubt be just as good in the cheaper nurseries (and lots of local parents are happy with them) but the facilities vary (particularly outside space) and the food is quite different (eg jacket potato and beans instead of home made quiche/curries/burgers/lasagna/soup etc cooked by the on site chef - if your child is having 3 meals a day, 5 days a week at nursery, quality of food is quite important).

TouchOfNatural · 11/06/2015 20:11

It's ridiculous to compare costs of Cornwall and Scotland to London :) London overheads - premises and staff salaries etc are MUCH MUCH higher! It's all relative.

shartsi · 11/06/2015 20:18

I'm in zone 6, £39 per day for 2-5 years and £41 for under 2s.

BlueBee · 11/06/2015 20:19

I'm in Manchester, it's £850 a month full time 8am-6pm.

LemonYellowSun · 11/06/2015 20:28

I pay £43 for 9-3. I think a full day is £52. South West Childbase chain

NormHonal · 11/06/2015 20:33

Yes, sounds right to me too.

newname12 · 11/06/2015 20:37

Sounds like the one I used to send mine to! If it is, it's fab.
