18mth old DS still cries when I drop him at nursery

He only goes 3 mornings a week. He's been at this nursery for 9 mths, and about 95% of the time, he starts to cry as soon as we pull into the carpark. I know that as soon as I walk out of the room he stops crying, and usually starts laughing at something (I've stood outside the door for about 10 mins just checking) The staff know that how I feel about leaving him when he cries - and some mornings I've been crying too. He has a wonderful time there, always happy when I collect him, and the staff have told me that interacts really well with the other children. Can anybody offer a suggestion?

There is not much you can do. I work in a nursery and a few of the children are like that. They cry until mum is out of sight and then they are fine. It is just to give you a big dose of parental guilt before you go to work. As long as you know he is fine I wouldn't worry too much, i know its easy for me to say.

Thanks for the reassurance. I spoke to his keyworker this morning (she's lovely) She seems to think that its just a habit he's got into. ie,"when I'm at nursery, I cry until mummy leaves" The funny thing is, even though he cries, he still puts his arms out to the staff! Little monster, he already knows how to trip the guilt switch

my dd used to be a bit like this. i organised it so i always gave her to exactly the same person to cuddle for 5 mins after i left and that they arranged to do something when i was walking out, like feed the fishes. HTH.
