Distance to nursery - does it matter?

A friend is looking at sending her child to a lovely nursery about 10 minutes walk from the station. She's happy to do the 20 minute drop off and collection as she leaves her buggy at the nursery, and she loves the nursery.

Her DH is adamant they need to find a nursery that's much closer to the station. He doesn't want to walk far he says. Especially on bad weather days. But they cannot find a nursery they like in their area that is much closer to the station.

I see his point and I see her point. This is causing huge tensions as she doesn't want to lose a place that's being held at the nursery while they decide. He doesn't want to walk far. They will share the school run.

What do you think?

10 minutes each way isn't far, especially for a good nursery. Is it on top of an already long commute?

I think it's odd you care enough to ask.

I used to have DS at a nursery 5-10mins drive from work which was a 30min drive from home. It worked fine for me.
When I was home on ML we used to walk much further than 20mins a day just going places or trying to get DS off to sleep (in all weathers he liked to be moving)
Round here there wouldn't be a choice of a nursery close as 10mins walk away let alone closer. It's far better to go for a good nursery that you are happy with, with a do-able distance rather than a lousy nursery just because it's in the right place.

I walk 20 minutes to my DS2s nursery, then another 40 minutes in the opposite direction for DS1s school and then 10 minutes home.
Only to pick DS2 up 3 hours later and DS1 2 hours after that.

It keeps me fit.
